Speaking rate of laryngectomees according to modes of speech rehabilitation

Abstract
|

|
Objective: This study aims to investigate the speaking rate of electrolaynx (ELS), esophageal speech (ES) and tracheosophageal speech (TES).
Method: Subjects of 31 alaryngeal speakers are all males and consisted of ELS with 5, ES with 22, and TES with 4. Speech data were collected and analyzed using CSL and Real Time Pitch. Statistical analysis based on the results was used SPSS 20.0 for windows.
Results: The results were as follows. Mean overall speaking rate is ELS 3.49SPS (syllable per second); ES 1.82SPS; and TES 2.30SPS, respectively. Secound, mean articulatory rate is ELS 4.58SPS; ES 3.14SPS; and TES 4.09SPS, respectively. Speaking rate as well as articulatory rate of ES were significantly lower than the other two groups.
Conclusion: Data and information collected in here would be used as reference to develop a more proper way to support of the speech rehabilitation for the laryngectomees.
